- Easter
Egg Hunt for the Blind (38
Pictures)
Since 1995, the Tyler Jaycees have hosted
this Easter Egg Hunt at Bergfeld Park
for special needs children. It is open
to Region VII children and held the Wednesday
before Easter. There are beeping eggs
for the visually impaired children. All
children receive an Easter basket, a toy
and get to hunt for candy-filled eggs.
Also on hand is the Easter Bunny and the
Chick Fil A cow.
- 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza
Begun in 1963 and previously held at Rose
Stadium, the Jaycees host and sponsor
the largest fireworks show in the area,
held at Lindsey Park since 1994. Lindsey
Park provides a family atmosphere, with
picnic areas, childrens' activities, live
music and a dunking booth.
- Haunted
House (14 Pictures)
For over 35 years the Tyler Jaycees have developed
a reputation for scaring the wits out
of local residents with a Haunted House
built and run by volunteers. The location
varies year to year, but look for the
Haunted House trailer. A canned food drive
is also run at the Haunted House to assist
the Regional East Texas Food Bank.
- Christmas Parade
Since the early 70's, the Tyler Jaycees
have organized and sponsored the annual
Christmas Parade in downtown Tyler. Held
the Thursday after Thanksgiving(December 04,2008), the Christmas
Parade is the first in a series of Christmas
events held throughout the city and is
a great way to kick off the season. Area
school bands, dance groups, antique tractors,
Shriners, horses, fire trucks and local
dignitaries and many others parade through
the downtown area, with Santa Claus being
the guest of honor.
